LANCE HURDLE

​

DIRECTOR OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS AND PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Coach Lance Hurdle is the co-founder of EXCEL Basketball and oversees all training and player development.


Lance played college basketball at the University of Miami (FL) and then played professionally for 10 years in the NBA G-League and in Australia. He is currently Cape Henry Collegiate School's Varsity Head Coach (Girls) and was formerly Assistant Basketball Coach (Boys). Coach Lance also serves as Dean of the Middle School and Director of Student Life for Cape Henry. Previously, Lance was the Head of Basketball at the Virginia Beach Fieldhouse and before that Player Development Director for the USC RipCity Basketball organization in Australia where he was responsible for basketball development programs, clinics, Aussie Hoops and one on one training. Coach Lance also ran basketball clinics in aboriginal communities in Australia during his professional playing years. Lance uses his experience from playing and coaching basketball to connect with players to improve their life skills.

SCOTT CLARK

Coach Scott Clark played basketball in his home state of California at Oxnard College and UC Riverside. He began his coaching journey his sophomore year of college when he was asked to assist his former high school team. Later he began coaching his own son and has been working with players ever since.

Coach Scott has extensive experience coaching recreational and AAU teams and has been on the coaching staff for Cape Henry Collegiate School for the past 5 years. He and Coach Lance have worked together at Cape Henry developing the Cape Henry basketball program and know what is needed to succeed at a higher level. Coach Scott is committed to training EXCEL players on how to reach their goals and mentoring them to be better teammates.

JIM CORRIGAN

Coach Jim Corrigan has extensive experience coaching at the high school and college level. He played on the Men's Varsity basketball team at Duke University and later served as Duke’s Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. His career also includes being the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and the Associate Men’s Basketball Coach at Old Dominion University and the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at The College of William and Mary.

Coach Jim has led many of his teams to championships and has received personal awards for his dedication to his players. He served as Head Basketball Coach at Bishop McGuiness in Winston Salem, North Carolina where he won a state championship, was state runner up twice and was named conference and state coach of the year. During his career Coach Jim coached in 13 post-season college tournaments and in 2012 was named one of the top 15 college assistant coaches by the U.S. by Bleacher Report. Jim brings years of high-level coaching experience to the players of EXCEL to help them achieve their full potential.

RALPH FABUNAN

Coach Ralph grew up in Yokosuka, Japan and moved to Virginia Beach in high school. He joined the Men's basketball team at Silliman University in Dumaguete, Philippines and played in semi-pro leagues in Olongapo City, Philippines. Ralph also played for the USS Mitscher Men's Basketball team when he joined the Navy. 


Coach Ralph started his coaching career at Subic Montessori High School in Olongapo City and is an active coach and player in the Filipino American Community in Virginia Beach. He loves mentoring young kids and joined EXCEL through his own son playing at EXCEL Academy. He is a fan favorite coach, nicknamed "Coach Ralphy," and all of the kids love to interact with him.

REBECCA DORFMAN (Volunteer Coach)

Coach Rebecca Dorfman grew up playing basketball in her home town, Virginia Beach!  She played AAU in addition to recreational leagues and played for her middle and high school teams. Basketball was one of many sports Rebecca played. She ran track, played soccer and field hockey on a competitive level as well. She went to VIrginia Commonwealth University on a field hockey scholarship.


Rebecca has coached recreationally the last few years and most recently with Excel for their breakout training sessions. Coach Rebecca has a passion for the game and enjoys being out on the court with the kids. Her goal is to spread her competitive energy and help push every player to become what they are capable of being.
